Furniture Pieces Inspired by Vintage Design

Where Saints Go is ran by the very same people who founded it back in 2014, which means our central ethos remains the same - we’re all about unique furniture that’s ‘Anything But Ordinary.’ Before forming WSG, we (Mark & Tracey) worked in the interiors industry for years, albeit in slightly different roles. We’ve covered everything from the wallpaper industry, commercial furnishing services, renovations and more, giving us a genuine passion for creating amazing spaces.

That’s why many of the pieces we source are inspired by iconic vintage designs that have defined the interiors industry throughout history. Think heavy-duty cast iron pieces reminiscent of our Manchester-based industrial heritage, as well as romantic furniture of unique craftsmanship that you could have picked up at a French flea market. We’re exploring some of our most bestselling ‘styles’ here, and exploring the vintage design icons behind them.

The Singer Bar Stool

A metal and leather bar stool, our Singer is based on the original 1920s design of traditional machinist stools made in the UK by Simanco, the manufacturer behind Singer. This is the sort of stool you’d find in an NYC loft apartment, where crittal windows and exposed brick reign supreme. While many of our Saints purchase these to add an industrial edge to their kitchen and dining spaces at home, we’ve also been lucky enough to work with several bars across Manchester to provide Singer Bar Stools in their venues.

Where can I buy industrial style Singer bar stools?

Great news, you can get your industrial cast-iron and leather Singer style bar stools from us. Our Singer Bar Stool is available in a choice of heights and comes readily assembled.

The Chesterfield Sofa Style Seat

As iconically British as the Spice Girls or Land Rover, the quilted leather of a Chesterfield has a timeless allure about it that works well anywhere. Our Hague Dining Chair (which is also available as a bar stool) has a similar quilted leather design, but made completely contemporary with a slim metal base and tapering silhouette. This Chesterfield style dining chair is a comfortable and classic option for the dining room and is destined to impress your guests.

The Mid-Century Modern Dining Chair

Does anything evoke that vintage mid-century mood quite like natural cane webbing alongside a chrome cantilever base? We think not. The original Cesca was created in 1928 by a Hungarian-German architect called Marcel Breuer. Breuer had previously studied at the Bauhaus, a German art school known for churning out prolific designers specialising in innovative Geometric forms - the Cesca was no exception and went on to become one of history’s most iconic dining chairs.

Our homage to this legendary design, the Cesca-Inspired Dining Chair is available in a variety of wood finishes, both with and without armrests. We must add that it is in no-way associated with the genuine Cesca Chair sold by Knoll.

The Flea Market Furniture Find

We’ve all got that one friend who has great clothing and great furniture. When you ask them where it’s from, they shrug nonchalantly and say “oh, it’s vintage” and nothing makes you more enraged. Well, now it’s your turn. As ex-importers who used to drive a large van over to France in search of beautiful bargains, we know what exceptional, unique furniture looks like. That’s why many of our chairs have been chosen for their beautiful craftsmanship and romantic elements that will transport you right to the brocante.

Some of our favourites include the French Farmhouse Chair , French Dining Chair , Loren Dining Chair & Rosie Accent Chair.

The Laidback Lounge Chair

Sitting somewhere between a casual dining chair and completely relaxed accent, the Didsbury Lounge Chair has an almost seventies appeal. We think it’s reminiscent of the Eames lounge chair thanks to its oversized leather quilting and comfortable shape. We picture it sitting right at home in an open-plan living space, beside your vintage hi-fi system and stack of vinyl.
